| Atkinson ponders ultimate joy ride | | Posted Friday, October 27, 2006 6:46:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | CHRIS Atkinson, Australia's sole representative in the World Rally Championship, was yesterday dreaming of racing his Subaru on the Brisbane streets surrounding Treasury Casino. Given that Queensland will host Australia's leg of the championship from next year, that may be a possibility, especially given the changing nature of the event. Atkinson, 26, who swapped an office chair at a Brisbane stockbroking firm for a racing seat, has competed on a number of different circuits and varied circumstances in his second full year for Subaru. In Athens, he sped through the Olympic Stadium; in Sweden, he slid through snow; last night in Perth, where the event is being held for the final time, he pushed his car around Gloucester Park, the city's trotting track next to the WACA Ground.... | |

| | | Spy Shots: Super Subaru Legacy? | | Posted Sunday, September 03, 2006 12:46:13 PM by Blog57 Team | | Our buds at Winding Road have a set of new spy shots posted that shows a Subaru Legacy mule sporting a mildly updated front fascia and a pretty substantial hood scoop. Back in May, an updated Legacy debuted in Japan and is now headed to Paris later this month. There are some differences between the refreshed Legacy and the one seen at right, though. For instance, while the area beneath the bumper is changed, the grille isn't. It sports the same chrome divider as seen on the current US Legacy. The new Japanese and European models (except Outback, which gets unique grillework) have a more pronounced "V" bisecting the grille opening, which we like very much. Also, Japan-market Spec.B cars get a honeycomb grille.Winding Road notes that the amber inserts on the head and taillights have been scratched in favor of clear ones -- a welcome (albeit extremely minor) change that is in keeping with the facelift other markets are seeing. What's the big scoop for? Those things don't appear on current Subies unless there's a turbocharged powerplant lurking underneath.... | |

Today is Herridge's first NEC ARC round win of his career, and the first time that a manufacturer other than Toyota has won a round of the Super Series in 2006. West Australian Herridge and co-driver Bill Hayes, driving a Subaru WRX Sti, are also the first privateer entrants to win a round of the NEC ARC this year. "I've worked for a long time to achieve this, and to not only win my first ARC heat but also my first round here in Tassie has just been amazing!" Herridge said. "I've certainly had to dig pretty deep this year as a privateer, but I'm very passionate about the sport and my family has been involved in it for a long time, so its nice to be able to win at this level."
