| Mitsubishi criticises ABC over closure report | | Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 10:46:06 AM by Blog57 Team | | Car maker Mitsubishi has criticised an ABC TV report on the future of its Adelaide plant. In a written statement, Mitsubishi says it has no plans to close its Tonsley Park plant. The company says it is deeply disturbed by last night's story on ABC TV's The 7:30 Report. Mitsubishi says the story suggested that it was effectively in the process of shutting down its operations. The company acknowledges there has been a study on the future of the Adelaide plant, but says the recommendations were flawed and it has been rejected by management. Mitsubishi says the speculation undermines confidence in the industry and the brand. It is now investigating possible avenues of recourse. Earlier, chief executive officer Robert McEniry wrote to employees to reassure them that manufacturing at Tonsley Park would continue.... | |

| | | Report: Kawasaki Heavy, Mitsubishi Heavy to develop new Airbus engine with Rolls Royce | | Posted Tuesday, October 03, 2006 10:45:58 AM by Blog57 Team | | TOKYO (AP): Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. will join British company Rolls-Royce Plc to develop an engine for Airbus SAS for its next-generation midsize passenger jet, a Japanese newspaper reported Tuesday. The three companies will co-develop engines for Airbus' A350 XWB aircraft, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, without citing sources. Kawasaki Heavy is likely to develop and produce compressors, while Mitsubishi Heavy will probably be responsible for combustors and turbine rotor blades, the report said. Typically, 100 billion to 200 billion yen (US$847.5 million to US$1.69 billion; euro668.11 million to euro1.33 billion) is required to develop a jet engine, and Rolls-Royce wants Kawasaki Heavy and Mitsubishi Heavy to shoulder around 8.5 percent and about 7 percent of costs, respectively, the Nihon Keizai said. The firms are in the process of finalizing the shares, with a decision to be made by autumn 2007. Rolls Royce has begun negotiations with the two Japanese companies, the Nihon Keizai said, quoting officials from the British company. The trio has already co-developed an engine for Boeing Co.'s next-generation 787 passenger jet.... | |

| | | Mitsubishi Evo IX Special Edition Released | | Posted Friday, September 01, 2006 6:46:04 AM by Blog57 Team | | TOKYO — The eagerly awaited Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X doesn't arrive until next year; meanwhile in Japan, 1,500 special editions of the Evo IX have been released, prepared by Mitsubishi Racing. The Lancer Evolution IX MR retails between $24,400 and $30,950 in sedan guise, and between $29,150 and $29,780 as a wagon. This will be the last one to use the current two-liter turbocharged engine. Although power is still 275 horsepower and maximum torque is 295 pound-feet, the engine's response has been improved. The suspension has been tweaked with Eibach coil springs and Bilstein shock absorbers, making the details on the special edition read like a racing-car spec sheet. Ride height has been lowered, and externally there are other small changes, like a bigger front dam, new 17-inch alloy wheels and MR emblems on the trunk lid.... | |

| | | Mitsubishi Motors halves first-quarter operating loss | | Posted Thursday, August 10, 2006 8:47:14 PM by Blog57 Team | | Mitsubishi Motors has reported consolidated net sales of 483.9 billion yen for the first quarter of fiscal 2006 (April 1 through June 30, 2006), down slightly from 485.8 billion yen a year earlier due mainly from a drop in sales volume in the company's Asia & Other region markets, which was not completely offset by increases in Japan, North America and Europe. Global market sales of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in the first quarter of fiscal 2006 totaled 292,000 vehicles, 34,000 fewer than the 326,000 sold in the same period last year. MMC sold 52,000 vehicles in Japan, a year-on-year increase of 4,000, 42,000 in North America, (+1,000 year on year), and 71,000 in Europe, up 5,000 due largely to increased volume in Russia and Ukraine. In markets in its 'Asia & Other' region, MMC sold 127,000 vehicles, 44,000 fewer than in the same period last year, with reduced demand in Taiwan and ASEAN markets.... | |

The model would replace the current eK Wagon that Nissan sells as the Otti under its own brand under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) deal signed in 2005. In addition to the 36,000 eK Wagons supplied to Nissan annually, Mitsubishi also builds 20,000 Minicab light commercial vehicles a year for Nissan, which sells them as the Clipper. Nissan, Japan's second-biggest auto maker, also procures 660cc minicars from top maker Suzuki Motor Corp. , with which it entered a broader manufacturing partnership in June. .... | |

| | | McRae gets car upgrade for R2 in CRC. | | Posted Tuesday, July 18, 2006 8:45:53 PM by Blog57 Team | | Ex-Mitsubishi and Hyundai WRC works driver, Alister McRae returns to China this coming weekend for the second round of the Chinese Rally Championship [CRC], the Liupanshui Rally in Guizhou province. McRae will swap his Group N Mitsubishi Lancer EvoVIII for the latest specification EvoIX and will be hoping for a repeat of his performance on the opening round, which he won convincingly. The second round of the series takes the crews deeper into the Chinese countryside, to mountainous territory and more challenging stages. "The first round was held in the outskirts of Shanghai, so the stages were a bit formulaic; straights and square junctions mainly," he explained, "but from what I understand of the next event, the stages are twistier, with a variety of narrow roads and more open, flowing ones." .... | |

| | | CARkeys - More Powerful Evo | | Posted Monday, July 17, 2006 10:45:51 AM by Blog57 Team | | Mitsubishi's high-performance Evo IX range has been extended upwards with the introduction of the FQ-360, which makes its debut at the British International Motor Show. As with the current three-car range, the number in the car's title is a slight understatement of the maximum power figure, which in this case is 366bhp. The long-running two-litre turbocharged engine has been uprated using a reprogrammed ECU and the high-pressure fuel pump and high-flow catalytic convertor used on the very rare Evo VIII FQ-400. The new car may not be as powerful, but its torque figures are more impressive - the maximum 363lb/ft is 8lb/ft more than the FQ-400 managed, and it's produced at 3200rpm rather than the FQ-400's significantly less practical 5400rpm. "We've worked hard to optimise the FQ-360's driveability," explains Paul Brigden, General Manager of Mitsubishi performance division Ralliart.... | |
