| Cartalk names Top 10 Scariest Cars | | Posted Sunday, November 19, 2006 12:46:03 PM by Blog57 Team | | What do the 1980 Chevy Monza and the 1973 VW Microbus have in common? They are among Car Talk hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi's Top 10 Scariest Cars list. Of the Monza they say, " Whenever one of these beauties reared its ugly grille in front of the garage, every mechanic with more than six weeks' experience would go running for the men's room and lock the door." Another car on the list, the 1987 Ford Festiva, gets this derision from the brothers: "We once got in trouble for saying this car came right from the factory with a funeral wreath on the grille."If these cars aren't scary enough, submit your own nomination. The whole list after the jump.[Source: cartalk.com]1969 Ford Mustang Scary for: Bystanders and other drivers 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Scary for: Bystanders and other drivers 1971 Ford Pinto Scary for: Firefighters and plastic surgeons 1973 Volkswagen Microbus Scary for: Drivers 1974 Volkswagen Thing Scary for: Onlookers 1980 Chevrolet Monza Scary for: Mechanics 1986 Suzuki Samurai Scary for: Drivers 1987 Ford Festiva Scary for: Drivers 2004 Hummer H1 Scary for: Society, the environment and therapists 2005 Pontiac Aztek Scary for: Onlookers .... | |

| | | 2004 Mazda 3 from Israel | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 2:46:09 PM by Blog57 Team | | With regards to the previous comment, I live in the UK and have a Mazda 3 2.0 148bhp manual transmission. It's a fantastic car however on a few occasions it has not started as easily as it could do, but it's always been the first time- it's just taken a while to fire. I think it's to do with the type of fuel station you visit- the quality of fuel. Esso for instance doesn't seem to do it any good whereas other brands seem OK. I actually work for Honda and whilst I agree that their products are brilliant in terms of build quality, engines and interior design, my Mazda 3 is a far superior car in terms of steering, handling, brakes and styling. The new Civic has just been launched in the UK and it's a big improvement drive wise, but the interior is extremely cheap with hard edges to some of the textures and lots of flimsy, thin, brittle, hard plastics.... | |

| | | 1993 Ford Festiva I'm guessing LX. from North America | | Posted Friday, September 29, 2006 10:46:02 AM by Blog57 Team | | I am the original poster of this review and I got rid of my 1993 Ford Festiva back in December. You say these are cheap cars and cheap to maintain? You're right about these cars being cheap because mine was a piece of garbage! My 1993 Ford Festiva was not cheap to maintain. I bought the vehicle on eBay for $1,426 in October which was a huge mistake and I'm still kicking myself. I invested well over $1,000 into this crap on wheels because it needed Auto Repairs weekly. After the Starter went, I finally said the heck with it and I traded "Crapstiva" for another vehicle that I don't own anymore. The Ford Festiva is the most un-reliable automobile I have ever encountered. Not to mention that the body is built by those numbskulls at Kia, the Engine is built by the "Let's make a car that lasts five years" folks at Mazda, and the Stereo is made by the "Let's cheat America with our vehicles built by six year olds" over at Ford.... | |

| | | Wacky racers crash for fun | | Posted Tuesday, August 29, 2006 4:46:47 PM by Blog57 Team | | Isaiah Thoms is like every other person trying to navigate the concrete-and-asphalt maze that is the streets and highways of Columbus. Hell get so ticked at a lanehopper, a tailgater, someone chatting on the cell phone or a generally rude driver that, just once, hed like to play a variation on bumper cars. The legal consequences and Thoms demeanor cut him off at the pass, but he does have a place to vent his anger. When Columbus Motor Speedway or another track within driving distance stages a demolition derby consisting of cars, cars pulling travel trailers, cars pulling cars and even school buses (which will race at CMS on Saturday), Thoms and friends Jeff Atkinsson and Pat DeCook probably will be there front and center. The rules generally are the same for each race: Hit or be hit, and let the last car running at the checkered flag win.... | |

| | | Cruise Thrills Spielberg With Chicago Honour | | Posted Saturday, August 05, 2006 6:45:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | TOM CRUISE thrilled pal STEVEN SPIELBERG at the weekend (15JUL06) when he showed up unexpectedly to honour the movie mogul at the Chicago Film Festival. Spielberg was momentarily left speechless when his WAR OF THE WORLDS star walked out on stage to present him with a Golden Hugo Lifetime Achievement Award. | | | A Humber Super Snipe | | Posted Friday, July 14, 2006 8:46:09 PM by Blog57 Team | | I have been blogging since July 2002 and in all that time I cannot remember saying anything about the cars I drive -- which makes me a rather unusual male blogger, I think. So just to show that I am not totally weird, I think I will say a bit about that now as a Sunday reflection.I have always been a demon driver. People who get into my car often emerge shaking. So I buy very small cars -- which enable me to flash through traffic down lanes that are not supposed to be there. I remember one occasion when I upset some guy in a big Ford without being aware of it and he decided to chase me to remonstrate with me. I was just driving in my normal way but it still stretched him to chase me. By the time he caught up with me he was too exhausted to say much to me. If I had been aware of him chasing me, he would never have caught up.But the cars I drive are not powerful ones.... | |
