A daunting 25 points separated the title rivals midway through this season, which will be Schumacher’s last. But Schumacher has steadily clawed his way back into the title race, with his superb victory in the Chinese Grand Prix finally pulling him level with the young Spanish champion on 116 points. | | | F1: Fisichella Leads Massa in Suzuka Practice | | Posted Thursday, October 19, 2006 2:45:54 AM by Blog57 Team | | Renault and Ferrari showed that this weekends Japanese Grand Prix should be an extension of this years title battle as the French and Italian teams swept the top-four positions in the first day of practice at Suzuka. The number two drivers were the ones shining, however, with Giancarlo Fisichella posting a best lap of 1:34.337, leading Felipe Massa by just 0.071. Title contenders Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso came next, trialing Fisichella by 0.2s and 0.5s respectively. Hondas Anthony Davidson completed the top-five, ahead of BMWs Sebastien Vettel. The Briton had paced the morning practice session, in which only 11 cars logged official lap times due to the very wet conditions. Scott Speed posted the 21st-best time in the afternoon, after being sixth in the morning session, when Scuderia Toro Rosso third driver Neel Jani was second.... | |

| | | Vandenbrink GTO may see production | | Posted Tuesday, September 26, 2006 2:46:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | Many dedicated Ferrari fans have been less than satisfied with the designs rolling out of Maranello. (Taking the 612 Scaglietti as an example, we couldn't blame them, especially when compared to the sumptuous GTs of the past.) Some complain from the sidelines, while others refuse: One customer had design house Pininfarina re-body an Enzo to emulate the classic 330 P4. Another had Zagato rebody a 575 M Maranello on the inspiration of the unique 250 GTZ. Now a small Dutch design firm is announcing plans to build the Vandenbrink GTO. While little information is available at this point, any Ferrari fan would recognize the sumptuous lines as a modern interpretation of the iconic early-sixties Ferrari 250 GTO. The designer is currently evaluating both the 575M and the new 599 GTB as possible chassis donors.... | |

| | | Spied: The Ferrari Enzo effect | | Posted Saturday, August 26, 2006 12:46:06 PM by Blog57 Team | | Ferrari claims it had no intention of announcing its 575 Maranello replacement, the 599GTB, at the Detroit auto show. The car was meant to be secret for a few more weeks, prior to a public debut at Geneva. But someone hacked into the company's servers, got the official photos of the 599GTB, and posted them on a Web site. So Ferrari had to go public. Though Ferrari gave only tidbits on the 599, we got a bit more from Ferrari chief Amadeo Felisa. The name refers to the 5.99-liter capacity of the V-12 engine, which is not, as everyone assumed, an update of the 575 Maranello's, but a reworked version of the storming Enzo's engine that develops 620 horsepower. .... | |

| | | Atomic Punk: 2007 Corvette Z06 Gets New Color, Price Bump | | Posted Friday, August 25, 2006 6:45:48 AM by Blog57 Team | | Oh, the good old days when cigarettes cost five bucks, gas was $3.00 a gallon and the Corvette Z06 was $65,690. They passed quicker than Lindsay Lohan's born-again virginity. These days, or at least the days to come, will see a price increase for the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 of $4,310, to a cool $70,000. All that extra cash goes toward optional OnStar, better damping of outside noise and a new color (pictured) called Atomic Orange Metallic. Can't blame Chevrolet for getting what a bargain the Z06 was and wanting a bigger piece of the action, no? Related: More on the Corvette Z06 [internal] .... | |

| | | The Fourth Round of The Sara GT Italian Gran Turismo Championship ... | | Posted Tuesday, July 11, 2006 4:45:52 PM by Blog57 Team | | The fourth round of the Sara GT Italian Gran Turismo championship was held today (Sunday 11 June) at Magione. Once again the Maserati MC12s fielded by Racing Box and Playteam Sara Free competed with their crews of Miguel Ramos-Luca Cappellari and Toni Vilander-Gianbattista Giannoccaro. The MC12s came in first in both races courtesy of Ramos-Cappellari and then Vilander-Giannoccaro. In race 2, the Ramos-Cappellari car, that took pole in both races, outclassed the Saleen driven by Montermini-Bontempelli and the Ferrari 575 GTC with Chiesa-Kessel on board. Vilander and Giannoccaro had an unfortunate time as, on lap 20 when challenging for the lead, they ran off the track when attempting to overtake Montermini-Bontempelli. The incident led to the failure of their suspension system and left them out of the points.... | |

| | | CARkeys - Ferrari 575 GTZ Zagato | | Posted Monday, July 10, 2006 10:46:00 AM by Blog57 Team | | It's such a drag having to drive the same sort of car as everyone else. I mean, how do you cope when your Ferrari 575M is the same as the one that Mr and Mrs Jones next door have got? That's just the scenario in which Japanese car collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi found himself last year. Owner of several squilllion pounds' worth of historic cars, including numerous Ferraris, he wanted to revive the association between Ferrari and Italian coachbuilder Zagato. With this alliance going back nearly 60 years, and with Zagato not having rebodied a Ferrari since 1993, the time was right to try something new. That's why Hayashi approached Zagato last year and asked if his 2004 Ferrari 575M could be rebodied. He wanted a V12-engined grand tourer, and when Zagato agreed to his request, the coachbuilder began talks with Ferrari.... | |
