Qualifying Report: A tale of two Ferraris
Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 10:47:04 AM by Blog57 Team
Michael Schumacher's faint World title hopes would appear to lie in ruins after his Ferrari suffered a problem in qualifying for tomorrow's Brazilian Grand Prix.Schumacher had earlier been flying in the first two qualifying sessions at Interlagos, and was poised for either pole or P2 on the grid. But, on his out-lap in the final 20-minute session, Schumacher's Ferrari toured round the 4.3km circuit before labouring back to the garage.Instead, it is team-mate Felipe Massa who will start the race on pole in front of his home crowd, with the McLaren of Kimi Raikkonen joining him on the front row.As for Fernando Alonso, who requires one point from the race to be crowned back-to-back Champion and become only the eighth driver in Formula One history to achieve such a feat, he will start from fourth behind the McLaren of Kimi Raikkonen and the Toyota of Jarno Trulli.Session 1In bright sunshine and temperatures of 20C ambient and 32C on the track, Sakon Yamamoto led off Session 1 of the season's final qualifying session. It started with anxiety in the Ferrari garage....

Pages: Michael Schumacher: The Greatest Ever?

Anton Pages is our familys Formula One champion. No, hes never driven a 1,000-hp Ferrari or raced past the F1 speed of 328 kph, but hes done plenty. Back in 1999, with his dad Jefren and brothers Giandi and Ezra, he watched the inaugural Malaysian Grand Prix. He wrote a weekly column entitled Flat Out for The Freeman. Three months ago, he visited Paris and barely missed catching the French Grand Prix. If you need an answer to an F1 question, ask Anton. So I asked Anton, my first-cousin, Whats the legacy of the Michael Jordan of car racing? After seven world championships (an 8th soon?), Schumey is retiring. Is he the greatest? Heres Anton... Say the words greatest and ever side by side and youre bound to get into trouble with someone wholl think youre either full of yourself or full of something funny you just smoked out back....

Raikkonen Tops Hungary GP Friday Practice
Posted Thursday, August 24, 2006 6:45:53 AM by Blog57 Team
With a time set on the first of today's two practice sessions, McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen topped the Friday charts at the Hungaroring circuit, host of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Finn's best lap of 1:21.624 wasn't bested by anyone in the second practice session. Only Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who led that session, came close to matching Raikkonen's performance with a 1:21.778 run. Raikkonen himself lagged at an abnormal 25th on practice 2, when worse weather conditions - the day was overcast and cool following overnight rain - made the track slower. Renault's Fernando Alonso was second-best in Practice 2, no less than 1.3 seconds behind Massa. His teammate Giancarlo Fisichella was next, ahead of testers Robert Doornbos (Red Bull) and Anthony Davidson (Honda). After being 13th in Practice 1, Scott Speed had to settle for 21st in the second session....

Nextel Cup star Carl Edwards overtook Denny Hamlin with nine laps left Saturday night and held on to win the Busch Silver Celebration 250 in Madison, Ill. After heavy rain delayed the start by 1 hour, 40 minutes, the race had few incidents during its 200 laps. Maybe more important to NASCAR officials, the circuit's first test run with unleaded gas went off without any noticeable changes in speed from a year ago. Edwards averaged 119.152 in his Ford, nearly 3 mph faster than the previous record set by Kevin Harvick during his 2000 victory. Edwards has won two of the past three Busch Series events and has three victories overall this season. He started on the outside of the front row and looked as if he might have lost his chance for victory when he pitted for two tires with 16 laps left....

Le Mans Classic 2006 - Preview
Posted Monday, July 10, 2006 4:46:04 PM by Blog57 Team
Now in its third running, the Le Mans Classic has established itself as one of the highlights of the historic racing calendar. Nearly 400 cars, built from 1923 to 1979, are entered in a celebration of the one of the worlds greatest races. advertisement The cut-off period is now 1979 so the entry has been opened up to Ferrari 512 BBLMs and BMW M1s and, as with so many of the entries, many of these are being driven by the racing drivers who made them famous at the time. The criterion for entry to the Le Mans Classic is simple - a vehicle that is either an actual ex-Le Mans car, or of an identical type that competed in the 24 Hours race from 1923 - 1979. Drivers can share the car and either elect to do a complete round each, or swap over during the individual races....

Carl Edwards won the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday night, closing the gap on Busch Series points leader Kevin Harvick. Edwards dominated the race, unofficially leading 70 of the last 85 laps, and beat Clint Bowyer to the finish by .920 seconds. It was Bowyer's sixth top-five finish in as many Busch Series starts at the track in Gladeville, Tenn. Harvick was third, followed by Denny Hamlin. Paul Menard, the highest-finishing non-Nextel Cup regular, rounded out the top five. The win Saturday was Edwards' second in the last three races as he keeps closing the gap on Harvick, who entered the race with a 297-point lead. Schumacher fastest Tony Schumacher, the three-time series champion in his division, ran the quickest Top Fuel pass of the season -- 4.447 seconds at 327 mph -- at his home area track to highlight a record-setting day of qualifying at the Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Joliet, Ill....
