Anyone who's flown into Detroit this year could see the Chrysler Group had made far more pickups and SUVs than dealers had ordered -- large Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles packed storage lots at the airport and throughout the metro Detroit-Toledo corridor. Executives in Auburn Hills said they were confident the tide would turn in the summer as it did a year earlier with the help of attractive retail incentives. They were wrong. Chrysler struggled to unload large inventories of trucks and SUVs throughout the summer despite generous incentives, as U.S. consumers continued to favor smaller fuel-efficient vehicles after several months of high gas prices. Making matters worse, it turned out, the company continued to crank out large, fuel-thirsty vehicles. Now the company's self-proclaimed "overly optimistic" sales outlook is being blamed for an expected $1.5-billion third-quarter operating loss and a year-end forecast of a $1.2-billion loss....

Deripaska to Unveil British Van Plans

Automaker GAZ, part of billionaire Oleg Deripaska's empire, is set to spell out Monday whether it has reached a deal to buy Birmingham, England-based van maker LDV -- an acquisition that would give it the rights to one of Britain's most popular van models. Russia's second-largest automaker has been in talks with Sun Partners Europe, a venture fund and the current owner of LDV, over the possible purchase of a license for its Maxus vans or of its entire business. If GAZ strikes a deal for a full-scale takeover, Deripaska would become the second Russian to own a British automaker. In 2004, Nikolai Smolensky, son of Russian banking magnate Alexander Smolensky, bought TVR, a boutique British sports car maker. Spokespeople for GAZ declined to comment on Friday, indicating that the firm would reveal some of the details at a Moscow news conference Monday....

I have been noticing these past posts have been correlating around the 2.7 L package, and not the 3.2, or even the 3.5L. Has anyone had the same problems, (engine, trans, windows, etc) with these other engine packages? Request deletion of this comment 3rd Mar 2005, 06:02 I believe the 3.5 liter is bullet proof, with the exception of the intake gasket. That is its only weak spot. But that's hit or miss. I have a 2000 intrepid, with the 2.7. As far as I know you couldnt get the 3.2 in it. Only the 2.7 or the 3.5, which is put into the RT model. This is my 2nd intrepid. The first being a 97 with the 3.5 liter. It was a great car, which led me to buy the 2000. The motor has been very good, it now has 100,000 k on it. And now oil is comming out of the dipstick when driving....
