AURORA, ON, Nov. 7, 2006 -- Magna International Inc. (TSX: MG.A, MG.B; NYSE: MGA) today reported financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2006. We posted sales of $5.4 billion for the third quarter ended September 30, 2006, an increase of 1% over the third quarter of 2005. This higher sales level was achieved as a result of increases in our European production and complete vehicle assembly sales offset in part by reductions in North American production sales and tooling, engineering and other sales. During the third quarter of 2006, North American and European average dollar content per vehicle increased 1% and 18% respectively, each over the comparable quarter in 2005. During the third quarter of 2006, North American and European vehicle production declined 7% and 5% respectively, each in comparison to the third quarter of 2005....

Upstart Warren County Democrats seek chink in GOP armor

Lebanon- Leona King is a 79-year-old retiree with a lot of bumper stickers on her patriot-blue Dodge Grand Caravan. There's one for Ted Strickland for governor, another for Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate, and others for state and local candidates. People here in Warren County, one of the most heavily Republican counties in Ohio, will see her out in the minivan, she says, and remark, "Oh, I thought I was the only Democrat." In the calculus of red and blue counties, it doesn't get much redder than here in picturesque Lebanon, the heart and seat of Warren County, where the fast-growing exurbs of Cincinnati to the south and Dayton to the north merge with farmland and the occasional apple orchard. President Bush packed in tens of thousands of supporters at a rally on the county line when he was running for re-election, then drew a stunning 73 percent of the Warren County vote....

Will the family room on wheels survive?

DETROIT -- Friends say her choice of vehicles makes her a typical suburban mom, but Jennifer Dionisio doesn't care what they think. She drives a light-blue 2004 Ford Freestar minivan because it's easy to load her three kids through the sliding doors. ``I am who I am no matter what I drive," the 31-year-old from the Detroit suburbs said as she was about to raise the rear door and off-load her cart in a grocery store parking lot. But according to auto sales figures, fewer people are thinking like Dionisio, with minivan sales down 12.4 percent during the first eight months of the year. Some automakers argue the downturn will pass as drivers seek alternatives to sport utility vehicles. But the minivan of the future will look different, and among some consumers it will be replaced by crossover vehicles, the new-wave station wagons that are already eating away the minivans' market....

Future Products — General Motors

General Motors' vehicle plan this year centers on rebuilding the Saturn line and quickly rolling out its high-profit, re-engineered, full-sized trucks. While many of those products are being launched, GM is shaking up product plans for this decade and next. The most striking change is the company's likely abandonment of mid-sized SUVs, shifting instead to more fuel-efficient crossovers. Two of these mid-sized crossovers debut this fall. For fun, the good-looking, much-talked-about Chevrolet Camaro concept will be turned into production reality in 2008. Two other rear-wheel-drive cars are eyed, possibly for Buick and Pontiac. GM's most important vehicles are the full-sized 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. Both have been extensively re-engineered for improved safety and fuel economy....

Chrysler extends employee-discounts program
Posted Tuesday, August 01, 2006 4:46:40 AM by Blog57 Team
DETROIT - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is extending its employee discount program on most 2006 models beyond Monday, when the promotion was to have expired. The program likely will remain in effect until Sept. 5 - the day after Labor Day - a Chrysler official said Monday. The official requested anonymity because the extension will not be officially announced until the automaker releases July sales figures Tuesday. Besides giving employee prices to everyone, Chrysler has been offering buyers the choice of zero percent financing for 36 months or rebates that vary by model. The extended program will include some minor changes to the amount of rebates offered with each model, the official said. The existing program was launched July 1, two days before Chrysler reported a 15.5-percent slide in June sales from year-earlier levels....
