The driver, a man in his 50s, did not appear to be at fault. Traffic was delayed for over an hour on Aurora as detectives blocked lanes to finish their investigation, Whitcomb said. .... | |

| | | Award-winning author's novel focuses on the dying Cherokee tongue | | Posted Monday, October 16, 2006 10:45:54 AM by Blog57 Team | | There are a lot of things Charles Frazier would like to preserve in his home state, North Carolina, but right now there are two in particular on his mind: independent bookstores and the Cherokee language. And chances are "Thirteen Moons," his new novel, could make a difference. The most anticipated follow-up in more than a decade, the book tells the story of the destruction of the Cherokee Nation. Frazier has decided to kick off his book tour by revisiting all the independents that supported him long before "Cold Mountain" won the National Book Award and became a blockbuster best-seller. At the start of this tour, Frazier took a break from signing a Dodge Durango-sized pallet of copies at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh — which has sold nearly 10,000 copies of "Cold Mountain" in the last decade — to say how this new story came to him.... | |

| | | Don't print that | | Posted Saturday, October 14, 2006 12:45:46 PM by Blog57 Team | | ) Look for the Twins, highlighting assorted pitching styles on their staff, to air a fun TV spot next March that already has been filmed. It features starter Johan Santana driving a Dodge Durango with closer Joe Nathan as passenger. Santana accelerates fast, then brakes fast, then accelerates fast, then brakes fast, and so on, and Nathan, who is getting motion sickness, asks if he can drive. Santana refuses to allow him behind the wheel. "This is how you win Cy Young Awards, baby, you change speeds," Santana tells Nathan. "All you do is fast." Suddenly, teammate Francisco Liriano zooms up in a sports car and slides into a parking spot beside them. "Who's that?" Nathan asks. "That's Liriano," Santana says.... | |

| | | Nuts & Bolts with Buffalo Jim | | Posted Saturday, September 23, 2006 10:46:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | I have a 2005 Dodge Durango that hasn't given me any major trouble, although I did have a freeze plug replaced in it about four months ago. There's no problem with the replacement, but just last week I found that another one of the plugs had gone bad. I've never had a freeze plug replaced until I got the Durango. Why are these plugs going bad? Is it a common problem with this vehicle? --Chad Billings It shouldn't be a common problem with any particular vehicle, bro, but it will definitely happen under the right -- or wrong -- circumstances. As you know, these plugs are installed on the engine coolant lines, and they're intended to provide an important service in protecting your engine when the outdoor temperature dips below zero. In the ugly event that water freezes in the radiator, they're made to pop out and prevent your engine block from being damaged by the expanding ice.... | |

| | | Mercedes GL450 SUV a tad too serious to be fun | | Posted Wednesday, August 23, 2006 8:46:11 PM by Blog57 Team | | Those brands - the Europeans mostly - tend to take carmaking seriously and want to overthink and overengineer their versions of the SUV. It will have no compromises, drive with the fury of a sport sedan and climb mountains like King Kong. That's impossible, of course, and unnecessary. But the imitators continue. Mercedes-Benz is the latest to step into the ring with its "big" SUV, the GL450, a 335-horsepower, all-wheel drive, seven-passenger truck with the heft to pull a 7,500-pound trailer. It joins the boxy and iconic G-Class ($81,675), a leather-lined military-grade vehicle that really can climb like King Kong. Mercedes hopes the sleek and efficient GL will appeal to its base of U.S. buyers when it's time to replace their Dodge Durango, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, etc.... | |

| | | 1999 Dodge Durango SLT from North America | | Posted Sunday, July 30, 2006 10:45:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | I bought a new 1998 Durango SLT with a 5.2L engine in December 1997. At 35K miles my rear end started whining, and eventually I lost power to the rear wheels. I had it replaced with the warranty (miraculous that it didn't happen at 36,001 miles, because I had a 36K mile warranty) but other than running it in to things (my fault) and some minor electrical issues, I have never had a major problem. It has 187K miles on it and it is all stock, no modifications at all. Just regular oil changes. Maybe I am just lucky. Request deletion of this comment 17th Mar 2004, 20:20 You know that I have had a lot of the same problems. My Durango 1999 SLT has 98,000 miles and just recently has the oil pressure guage dropped to zero. They replaced the oil sensor and everything was OK for awhile.... | |
