DETROIT — The Chrysler Group will launch production of the Dodge Avenger in January, several dealers told the Detroit News this week. Chrysler would not confirm production plans for the midsize sedan, although it has said it will build a new sedan to replace the Stratus and that the car would enter the market early next year. The Avenger concept made its debut at the Paris auto show in September. The Avenger concept is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine and is described as an illustration of the brand's upcoming design direction. J.D. Power and Associates is forecasting Avenger sales to be in the range of 65,000-70,000 units a year. The car will be built alongside the Chrysler Sebring at the company's Sterling Heights, Michigan, assembly plant. What this means to you: Sounds like Dodge is hustling to get a toehold in the car business, and that's good news for buyers who aren't drawn to the division's big trucks....

Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- For a while, it looked as if DaimlerChrysler AG would get away with relying on big, gas-hungry cars and trucks in the U.S. auto market. Sales of models such as the Dodge Ram pickup truck, Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicles, as well as the stylish Chrysler 300 sedan, for two years were a boon to the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker, whose flagship Mercedes- Benz car division was struggling due to poor quality. After gasoline prices in the U.S. surged following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, inventories of relatively fuel inefficient Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep models swelled. DaimlerChrysler delayed deep cuts to its production schedule and increased some discounts, gambling that sales would pick up. They didn't....

Q. I have a 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXI six-cylinder that has been giving me a problem starting. I have had my mechanic look at it, and a local Chrysler dealership. DaimlerChrysler have finally completed the ambitious task of revamping their product line in all major categories with the introduction of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring. The 2007 Sebring will be available in the 4th quarter of 2006 and shares the bold handsome familiar appearance of rest of the Chrysler family of cars.
