| | | Paris Motor Show wrap up - every car | | Posted Friday, October 06, 2006 12:46:02 PM by Blog57 Team | | ALFA was assured of plenty of attention in Paris for the production version of its 8C Competizione sportscar, based on a show concept from Frankfurt 2003 and named for a line of famous racers. The 8C is powered by a new 4.7-litre V8 under the bonnet which produces 333kW and 470Nm, driving through a six-speed robot-clutch gearbox at the rear axle. The sumptuously curved carbon-fibre body sits on a donated Maserati platform, with double wishbone suspension all-around and huge 20-inch alloy wheels. Alfa plans to build just 500 examples of this supercar, with sales beginning in 12 months and a price around 160,000 euros ($272,000). | | | Chop, Chop: Chrysler to Build the Tomahawk Motorcycle? | | Posted Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:45:52 PM by Blog57 Team | | Cripes on a bike! Word is the 500-hp Tron-a-be, the Chrysler Tomahawk, is coming soon to a bazillionaire near you. Chrysler's reportedly greenlighted the Viper V10-powered motorcycle as a limited-production model. If you'll recall, the batshit-mad Tomahawk scared the bejesus out of onlookers at the 2003 auto shows. Arguably, production started late in 2003 with a hand-built reproduction sold via the Neiman Marcus Christmas book that year. The new models will reportedly cost in the neighborhood of $250,000 each. Of course, if that's too much, you can always have this one. | | | Accident Ties Up Traffic On Rt. 13 | | Posted Tuesday, August 22, 2006 8:45:52 AM by Blog57 Team | | Another accident tied up traffic, this time on Route 13, after police say a driver traveled across two lanes and hit a parked car at the Sherwood Car Dealership. It was a brand new Chrysler Crossfire with a price tag of $50,000 dollars. The driver was traveling with his young son in the car but nobody was injured. "I was coming from that way, headed this way and I happened to look down for a second and the car got out of control. It hit something and then hit something else. That's all I remember. It went by so quick," said driver Trever Purnell. That accident is still under investigation. Portions of this story copyright ?2006 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved. | | | Preview 2007 Chrysler Line | | Posted Monday, August 21, 2006 2:46:37 AM by Blog57 Team | | In both the automotive and light truck fields, Chrysler Group has carved a successful niche for itself based on bold and distinctive style. That style was not the result of hiring a big-ego star designer from outside, but was developed by then-Chrysler Corporation people passionate about cars. And because of that, style is now firmly ingrained into the company's culture, for all of its brands. The designers who led the revolution a decade and more ago that brought such mid-1990s machinery as the first Ram pickup, the Viper, and the Prowler may be long gone, but their influence lived on in subsequent generations of Chrysler Group designers and vehicles, particularly those under the Chrysler nameplate, best exemplified by the Chrysler 300 sedan and the Crossfire coupe and roadster. Now Chrysler, the brand, is moving toward a distinctive, cohesive look for all of its vehicles.... | |

| | | 4WDs blamed for tot tragedies | | Posted Sunday, July 30, 2006 12:45:48 PM by Blog57 Team | | A CHILD is run over in their own driveway each week, with four-wheel-drives and people movers among the worst for reversing visibility, research has found. SGIO said Toyota's RAV-4 and Prado 4WDs, the Honda Odyssey people mover, the Mitsubishi's 380, the Mercedes CLK500 and the Holden Viva 5 Door hatch got zero stars in the company's Reversing Visibility Index, released today. Less than one per cent of the 270 vehicles tested this year under the index - which measures how well a driver can see out the back of a car - received the maximum five star rating. SGIO said this is despite research that also showed that more than a third of pedestrians aged under six that were killed in motor vehicle crashes were struck down off road in yards, car parks and driveways. And nearly one child each month presented to Princess Margaret Hospital with serious injuries from driveway accidents.... | |

| | | It started with row over £1,000 debt | | Posted Friday, July 07, 2006 12:45:51 PM by Blog57 Team | | A MAN went on the rampage in a mechanical digger yesterday, destroying a house and three cars, one of them a police vehicle. Neighbours watched as the driver, in his fifties, rammed the digger into the four-bedroom house while a woman was apparently still inside. A policewoman called to the home at Eastland Meadows holiday park in Bradwell on Sea, Essex, was unable to stop the destruction. The digger smashed into her police car. A Chrysler Crossfire and Chrysler 300C belonging to the owners were also wrecked. The driver, who was eventually pulled from his digger when armed officers arrived, collapsed before being arrested and taken to hospital. He was identified as Robert Taylor, a driver of heavy plant machinery. Janice Gledhill, who lives at the property with her partner, James Harvard, said that she had been in bed when the digger arrived soon after 7am.... | |
