| | | 1997 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI from North America | | Posted Saturday, October 14, 2006 10:45:54 AM by Blog57 Team | | I would like to comment regarding the issues that people have had with their Sebring instrument clusters becoming inoperative. I have a 1997 Sebring JXi convertible, and the instrument cluster was in a non-working state when I bought the car. The tach does not work, and the odometer does not appear to work (although it still records mileage, just won't display). Chrysler had a flawed design for a few years; there is a resistor on the PC board assembly on the back of the cluster that overheats and burns out. I have not replaced mine yet, but I understand they are rather expensive. In my opinion, Chrysler should honor a lifetime warranty/replacement on this obviously defective part, but I doubt that is the case. I love my Sebring, but I also understand that it is a typical American car and it has to be babied a lot.... | |

| | | Rumored! 2010 Iteration of Four-Door Chrysler 300 To Get Drop-Top ... | | Posted Tuesday, October 03, 2006 12:46:33 PM by Blog57 Team | | Although specialty builder and supplier ASC Incorporated unveiled its Helios concept, a lattice-structured ragtop based on a 300C four-door sedan, at the Detroit show last year, word on the street is the German-American hybrid's rejected the ASC design due to cost considerations and feasability studies. Instead, Motor Trend is reporting the 'merican side of the cross-Atlantic merger of equals has contracted with another cross-Atlantic merger of equals, the Austrian/Canadian killer combo of Magna-Steyr to build a Karmann-style retractable folding steel roof for the next design iteration of the big gangsta sedan. Of course, they've been mulling over this idea forever -- so who knows whether this is real or Memorex. | | | Taking a shine to car care | | Posted Monday, August 21, 2006 8:46:07 PM by Blog57 Team | | To my great delight and surprise, I've developed obsessive-compulsive disorder, and my gratitude goes to Carling Ave. because if it hadn't been for the city finally getting off its glutes with the current re-paving of Carling, I wouldn't be driving the new car, the cause of my sickness. The lengthy section I'm talking about is east and west of Woodroffe Ave., a stretch of bumps, cracks, and craters that pounded the bejayzus out of cars such as the latest in my heaps-from-hell, the '96 Lumina, which was falling apart just fine without bullying from Carling Ave. Like the driver-side door. Couldn't open it the last two years. Why didn't I get it fixed? Good question, beats me. But I became used to opening the passenger-side door, flinging my body across, flicking the lock, getting out, walking around to the driver-side door, getting in.... | |

| | | Ford edges closer to the abyss | | Posted Sunday, August 20, 2006 2:45:43 PM by Blog57 Team | | Watching the decline of what we once called the Big Three automakers is kind of like witnessing an out-of-control oil tanker heading toward the rocks. Events unfold very slowly, but as time drags on, there's less and less doubt about the outcome. Yesterday, Ford seemed to confirm that it's the most deeply troubled of this group, announcing the latest step in a turnaround plan unveiled at the beginning of this year with the optimistic title: The Way Forward. Yesterday's announcement, that Ford will try to conserve cash with its most brutal production cuts in 20 years, makes it clear that the way forward at this dysfunctional company is mostly about slamming into reverse. Not that CEO Bill Ford and his brain trust have much choice. Ford once profited mightily from its leadership in the sale of gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks - which account for more than two-thirds of its sales.... | |

| | | An economical luxury car? There are plenty of choices | | Posted Sunday, July 30, 2006 12:45:54 AM by Blog57 Team | | I suppose that when it comes to automobiles, just about every "best of" competition category imaginable has been covered by some group or other -- often over and over again. But one came up recently that I'd never heard of before. A website associated with a major U.S. business magazine named what it considered the "Best Luxurious car for a Non-Luxury Price" -- a fascinating concept, to say the least. After all, most of us would like to be able to buy something that comes close to a luxury car, but doesn't cost half the price of a big-city condo. After much research, the website -- operated by Forbes Magazine -- handed out the top award to Hyundai's Azera sedan, which is certainly a remarkable product for its thrifty sub-$36,000 price tag. Driving one of these new Hyundais is rather like driving a Lexus of a few years back, thanks to its refinement, fit and finish and subtly attractive styling.... | |

| | | Your Driving Costs 2006 | | Posted Friday, July 07, 2006 12:46:17 AM by Blog57 Team | | AAA is a federation of motor clubs serving more than 49 million members in the United States and Canada through more than 1,100 offices. Founded in 1902, AAA is a not-for-profit, fully taxpaying corporation. Its purpose is two-fold: give members a full range of automotive and travel-related services and promote the interests of motorists and travelers through legislative and educational activities. AAA has published Your Driving Costs since 1950. That year, driving a car 10,000 miles annually cost 9 cents a mile, and gasoline sold for 27 cents per gallon. Because it incorporates significant changes to driving cost calculations most notably the averaging of costs for multiple top-selling vehicles in each size/type category this edition of Your Driving Costs is not comparable to previous editions.... | |

| | | Over 300 Chrysler Group Employees to Create the Words 'O Say, Can You See' to Raise Awareness of National Anthem | | Posted Wednesday, July 05, 2006 6:46:10 PM by Blog57 Team | | Over 300 Chrysler Group employees, dressed in white Jeep(R) t-shirts, will welcome the National Anthem Project (NAP) to Metro Detroit by creating the words to spell out the first five words of "The Star-Spangled Banner" -- "O say, can you see" -- on the front lawn of DaimlerChrysler's Auburn Hills Headquarters on Friday, July 7 during morning drive time. Employees will sing the national anthem to honor America and support the NAP tour. The "National Anthem Project: Restoring America's Voice" is a multi-year national education initiative created by the National Association for Music Education (MENC) to re-teach Americans the national anthem after a Harris Poll showed that two out of three Americans don't know the words to "The Star- Spangled Banner." The Jeep brand is the National Presenting Sponsor, building upon its 65-year heritage and role in U.S.... | |
