Postal Inspectors Announced $50,000 Reward In Post Office Robbery

They are currently searching for a 2001 maroon-colored Chevrolet Tahoe with license plate 1B0484Z that was stolen from a customer during the armed robbery. A second stolen vehicle was recovered in Bessemer shortly after the incident, officials said. Anyone who has information regarding the crime is encouraged to contact postal inspectors at 205-326-2900, Bessemer police at 205-425-2411 or the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department at 205-481-4210. ....

Police identify dead bicyclist

Police identified Byron Marcus Sherman as the 38-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday afternoon as he rode his bicycle on Government Street near downtown. Sherman, of Mobile, was traveling east on Government at 4:40 p.m. when he apparently tried to change lanes and crossed paths with a Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle, police spokesman Officer John Young said. The Tahoe, also traveling east, was driven by 29-year-old Barbara Day of Bay Minette, said Officer Eric Gallichant, another police spokesman. Sherman, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, where he later died, Young said. Police were awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Young said....

There's a new platform for the big wagon with a wider track and lower center of gravity to make Tahoe more stable in motion and, when coupled to a revamped suspension, improve the ride. Two powerful Vortec V8 engines motivate the new Tahoe. Top plant is a 5.3-liter V8 with Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology to conserve on fuel. In 1909, a truck from the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company became the first vehicle to climb the now-famous Pikes Peak. That same year, Rapid was bought by a fledgling General Motors Corporation, eventually transforming to become GMs truck-only brand, GMC. Nine years later a successful car company called Chevrolet folded into GM, releasing their first ever pickup truck to celebrate GMs acquisition of the popular brand. Designed to compete directly with Fords Model T; the 1918 Chevy 490 Light Delivery was based on the 490 car, with one exception: there was no cab or body. Since then GMs truck divisions have come a long way, with the most recent iteration of the GM full-size truck lineup being introduced to the world earlier this month. Coined GMT900 series, the new Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra light truck lines are GMs most important models; accounting for 30 percent of total sales....

Like many his age, Leonid Sukher, 19, liked motorcycles and racing, but the combination of the two led to his death this week. Sukher, of Lenexa, was hill-jumping when his motorcycle crashed on eastbound Kansas 5 near 123rd Street in Leavenworth County, a sheriff's office accident report said. He was in the area with friends, and one young man was arrested in the case, officials said. No charges have been filed. "When you're 19, you think you can do anything," said Anya Sukher, the victim's sister-in-law. The family said they want other young people to know that motorcycles can be dangerous, Sukher said, especially if ridden improperly. About 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's deputies said, Sukher was riding a Yamaha 600cc at high speed in an attempt to jump a hill....

General Motors announces collaboration with state of Ohio and Kroger Stores to help bring more E85 ethanol fuel to key areas of the state. July 17, 2006 Truck Trend, General Motors today announced that it has facilitated plans for the addition of several new E85 ethanol fueling sites in central Ohio thanks to a collaborative partnership with Kroger Stores and the State of Ohio. GM has been the catalyst behind several similar partnerships across the country as part of a broader, national campaign to boost the use and awareness of ethanol-based E85 fuel in the United States. The announcement was made today at the 7000 East Broad Street Kroger Fueling Station in Columbus, where the first of these planned E85 ethanol pumps will be installed next month. ....

The driver of a tan Chevrolet S10 Blazer was traveling north to San Antonio when she fell asleep about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, July 22, said DPS Trooper Clint Walker. The driver was identified as Elsa White, 43, of San Antonio. The Blazer crossed the center median, spun around and began to roll backwards toward oncoming southbound traffic. The Blazer struck a black Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. The Tahoe was driven by Steve Garza, 32, of Corpus Christi. His passengers included his wife, Joyce, age 25; their 6-month-old son, Elijah; Michael Ybanez, 20; and 4-1/2 month pregnant Crystal Salinas, 18, all of Corpus Christi. Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department's Rescue Unit was called to cut Steve Garza from the wreckage. Atascosa County EMS treated and prepared the injured for transport by the two AirLife helicopters to University Hospital in San Antonio....

Off the back of an impressive top five ranking for sales of General Motors (GM) vehicles in Lebanon, the eagerly anticipated, all-new 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, made its debut at IMPEX, the exclusive Chevrolet dealer in Beirut. The launch comes on the heels of the May 2006 Association of Car Importers report which shows that GM is now ranked among the top five automotive companies for vehicle sales in Lebanon. Single-car crash kills one on I-95

West Palm Beach -- A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 early Tuesday morning killed one man and left two others injured, state troopers said. Darvez Jaron Hamp Cohen, 28, of Lake Park, died after being ejected from a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe that struck the concrete barrier and veered across northbound lanes of the highway at 5:40 a.m., said Lt. Tim Frith, of Florida Highway Patrol. ....
