Quit stalling: Check engine and oil light

Question: I have a 1990 Dodge Ram 150 pickup. When it slows, the engine will shut off, but it restarts without difficulty. That problem is recent, but the oil light has been on since I have owned the truck. Is there any advice you can give me? Brandi Answer: The first possibility that comes to mind is the EGR (exhaust-gas-recirculation) valve; if it isn't sealing properly, the truck could have a vacuum leak when slowing, and that would stall the engine. This condition usually is caused by carbon buildup. Also, the fuel-supply line that runs from the in-tank fuel pump to the outlet in the top of the tank can develop pinhole leaks, which would create low fuel pressure, and that could cause stalling. A fuel-pressure test will tell for sure. ....

Exclusive Spy Video & Photos: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

GM's engineers did their best to keep the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu under cover, but our spy photographers still managed to capture photos and video of a camouflaged prototype undergoing hot-weather testing in the California desert. Built on a six-inch-longer wheelbase than the current model, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu will have more space between its wheels than either the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. At 112 inches, the Malibu's wheelbase also exceeds the current Chevrolet Impala, so look for that sedan to grow significantly when it gets a full redesign for 2009. Unlike the Impala, which is expected to switch to rear-wheel drive, the Malibu is sticking with front-wheel drive and either four-cylinder or V6 engines. The 2.4-liter version of GM's Ecotec four-cylinder would put the Malibu in line with most of its competitors on the low end, while making it easy to offer the hybrid system set to debut in the Saturn Aura....

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius drove the first Saturn Aura off the assembly line Friday afternoon at the Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kan. "One of the really unique features at Fairfax is how the management team and the United Auto Workers are working hand in hand," Sebelius said. "You can't build good cars without good people, and you can't keep good jobs without partnership." Sebelius said that automotive production news is bad lately and that the industry is really struggling to keep its position. However, she said the commitment of Fairfax workers is the main reason the plant maintains its position when production cuts and layoffs are going on elsewhere. "The companies look to where they can get good workers, and they know they can get them here," Sebelius said....

About $50,000 worth of marijuana was seized in Chambers County, Ala., Tuesday after helicopters spied the leafy crop from above, Lee County Sheriff's Capt. Van Jackson said. The bust occurred just outside the Lee County line, around 2 p.m. and yielded about 50 4-foot-tall plants, Jackson said. One of three helicopter pilots charged with surveying the area as part of a federally funded eradication program spotted the crop. The pilot radioed his findings to a ground crew, consisting primarily of Lee County sheriffs deputies, who tracked the secret stash and harvested it. Authorities also discovered a residence located a short distance from the plants. Chambers County officials have assumed the investigation and although no arrests were made Tuesday evening, Jackson said the discovery will probably lead to an arrest....
