John Skelley has never been able to put much more than a swig of locally purchased ethanol in his black flex-fuel Chevrolet Avalanche covered with stickers extolling the benefits of the fuel blend. When Skelley, who is building the state's first ethanol plant between Maricopa and Casa Grande, drove to the Midwest two months ago, he couldn't tank up with the largely corn-based grain alcohol extract for nearly 1,300 miles until he arrived in the cob of the Corn Belt, Kearney, Neb. ....

GM's Hummer division is well aware that it has come to represent wretched excess to many Americans, and it wants you to know that its new SUV, the H3, is a kindler, gentler Hummer. This smaller, more fuel efficient model is based on the platform that underlies the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups. Available only with a 3.5-liter five-cylinder engine that produces 220 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm, the 4700-pound H3 will have its work cut out for it towing its rated 4500 pounds-or even just motivating its own weight. ....

AP Blog: Champ Car Makes Fan-Friendly Move
Posted Tuesday, July 25, 2006 10:45:52 PM by Blog57 Team
EDMONTON, Alberta _ One thing the Champ Car World Series has been criticized for in the past has been the appearance of a lack of caring about the fans. While the American open-wheel series is desperate to keep the fans it has and find thousands of new ones, there are times when decisions seem to be made despite those concerns. That includes things like shortening already short races because of tight TV windows, failing to make time for drivers to do autograph sessions and meet the fans and having the teams putting away their equipment and preparing for their departure while hundreds of fans are walking through the paddock before the races.Well, today marks a departure from all that. With an 11 a.m. start time for the race _ because CBS is committed to showing the American Le Mans Series sports car race at Portland immediately following the Champ Car event _ the Edmonton promoters asked Champ Car if its teams would agree to remain in the paddock for several hours after the race.Champ Car officials approached the teams and, somewhat surprisingly, all agreed to stick around and give the fans something to look at in the paddock after the race....

2005 Chevrolet Colorado - Severado

If you ever wondered what one of the original members of Severed Ties would roll, here you have it. Kurt Forqueran, owner of Auto Core in Phoenix, AZ, has been a part of Severed Ties since '93. Having built plenty of customs in the past, including his mini-truck-inspired Civic, a '60 Caddy, and his Pontiac Sunfire '04 SEMA project, his next task should have been no problem. Grabbing a '05 Chevy Colorado as a canvas for his custom ambitions and with SEMA only two months away, Kurt and the Auto Core posse were gonna have to get slammin'. The first month consisted of three shaved door handles, a ragtop install, and a gutted interior. Let me tell you what. It was looking pretty good driving the streets of Phoenix as Kurt was using it for his daily driver. As safety is Kurt's first priority, there was one bolt holding in the driver's seat....

Donner has tough hill to climb
Posted Monday, July 03, 2006 6:45:48 AM by Blog57 Team
When big-name drivers such as Danny Sullivan and Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima entered this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, David Donner seemed to get lost in the shuffle. Donner might not be considered a marquee attraction, but he's a three-time overall champion at the Hill Climb, including last year. Donner, who competes in Open Wheel, is driving a 2006 Donner Special Indy-style car powered by a NASCAR Chevrolet SB2.2 engine designed specifically for Pikes Peak. Donner will try to become the king of the Hill Climb again at 9 a.m. today during the 84th running of the race to the top of the 14,110-foot peak. "The road is beautiful and I am really excited for the race," Donner said. "We have been working all the glitches and kinks out to make sure that everything is ready." A year ago, Donner's NASCAR engine had a bearing problem on the first day of practice....
