The world's largest automaker sold 301,317 cars and trucks in October, up 17 percent from 257,622 for the same month in 2005. Light truck sales rose 33.2 percent to 184,930 from 138,881, as demand for the GMC Sierra more than doubled to 18,080. In addition, sales of the Chevrolet Tahoe rose 91.9 percent to 12,181, sales of the Chevrolet Avalanche jumped to 6,244 from 2,469, and sales of the Chevrolet Yukon rose to 6,068 from 2,612 vehicles. Car sales fell 1.9 percent to 112,471 from 114,665 in the year-ago period, as demand for the Chevrolet Cobalt fell 45.2 percent to 8,772, sales of the Chevrolet Aveo fell 33.8 percent to 3,883 and sales of the Chevrolet Malibu dropped 19.9 percent to 9,886.... | |

Christine A. Ritenour, 40, of Saltlick Township, is being detained at the Fayette County Prison, according to an order Friday by Judge Steve Leskinen. She faces a prison sentence if she's found to have violated her probation. The judge sentenced Ritenour in March to complete 23 months of intermediate punishment, including 180 days on house arrest. She pleaded guilty in January to a charge of driving under the influence. Company officials said the financing would be offered on Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and GMC models during a sale that begins Thursday and ends July 5. The announcement heats up the incentive war between the domestic automakers, and it comes at a time when GM says its June sales likely are to be 30 percent below the same month last year, because at that time, GM was offering an employee-discount promotion. But company officials said Tuesday that they have no plan to return to employee pricing.
