| Hatfield helps out charities | | Posted Thursday, November 02, 2006 10:46:30 AM by Blog57 Team | | Reo Hatfield's parents loved cars, enough so to name him Reo after Ransom Eli Olds, who left General Motors and started his own company, Reo Motor Co. But Hatfield's parents didn't stop there; these proud West Virginians decided on Bentley as Reo's middle name. Soon after his birth, Hatfield moved to Savannah, where he spent most of his developing years. He eventually found his way to Virginia and after several years, opened Reo Distribution in 1988. .... | |

| | | Putting Your Bike on the Fast Track | | Posted Tuesday, October 10, 2006 6:46:00 AM by Blog57 Team | | A few people believe that abandoned rail roads should be put to better use by the public. Dick Bentley of Franklin County, New York has been riding the rails for a long time and enjoys every minute of it. He has taken an old idea of a rail bike, reworked it completely and come up with a way to let your own bicycle roll peacefully down a railroad track. "Abandoned railroads go through some of the most beautiful countryside, no steep hills to climb, you hear the slap of a beaver's tail on the pond, the bird's call and the animals come out and gape at you," marvels Bentley. Bentley says his plan is simple and the average conversion from street bike to rail bike can be made in a weekend. And he says it easily comes apart to fit into the family van. Bentley travels with other rail bikers and says it is quiet enough to carry on a conversation with everyone while rolling along.... | |

| | | Hotels luring guys with 'mancations' | | Posted Sunday, September 17, 2006 2:46:01 AM by Blog57 Team | | MIAMI BEACH, Florida (AP) -- Gene Grabarnick longed for a hotel with all the things a man would want on a getaway with friends. Where the concierge ushers guests to the hottest clubs. Where requests, from hand-rolled cigars to a favorite beer in the mini-bar, are unflinchingly filled. Where luxury is wrapped in sexy, swanky style. So, he built it. The Regent South Beach, the hotel Grabarnick developed here and plans to open in October, is among businesses nationwide targeting guys vacationing -- or as they like to say, "mancationing" -- with their friends. They are offering everything from poker parties to hand-rolled cigars, buckets of beer to sports tickets, all in hopes of tapping a growing market. "These trips are about a group of people that most likely met in college and are sort of just extending their yesterdays," said Josh Lesnick, president of I'm in!, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based business founded last year that helps organize trips for groups of men.... | |

| | | Overfinch Range Rover Sport | | Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 4:46:34 PM by Blog57 Team | | Synonymous with improvements to Range Rovers for 31 years, Overfinch has turned its attentions to the Range Rover Sport, with a totally bespoke interior and uprated 440 bhp V8. The Farnham-based engineers have developed the Overfinch name into a manufacturers brand in its own right, and visiting the facility the other day, with several new model-Range Rovers and Sports in the workshops, it seems a long time ago that the company carried out such extensive work as complete engine transplants and all-new suspension and transmission on the worlds most prestigious 4 x 4. The current production from the Solihull factory is infinitely better than in years gone by, yet the demand for bespoke cars by Overfinch is as strong as ever, and the company can always find that little extra in the handling, engine and braking departments for the discerning connoisseur Many of the companys customers have owned Overfinch Range Rovers since the early days, and needless to say these cars are probably just one of a fleet of vehicles that may include examples of Bentley, Ferrari or Aston Martin motor cars.... | |

It's an alarming trend in Europe that has many car manufacturers here in the U.S. on edge. Criminals are using computer programs to break into and steal vehicle, including high-end models from Lamborghini, Bentley, Hummer, Mercedes and BMW. "As we become more and more digital, and more and more electronic, this is going to continue to be a problem for consumers," said Bill Allen, who works on radio frequency identification systems for Texas Instruments. The most high profile theft of this kind came earlier this year when soccer star David Beckham's $100,000 armored BMW disappeared from a Madrid hotel.... | |
