Auckland Giltrap Prestige employee Philip Pottinger's Sunday afternoon drive ended when the new Audi S6 Avant with a 5.2 litre V10 engine rolled up to six times in Kauri Rd, Whenuapai - 20km from the car firm's Grey Lynn address. His passenger was injured. Sources say the car, which reaches 100km/h in just over five seconds, was the only one of its type in New Zealand. Pottinger, 27, will appear in Waitakere District Court on Wednesday facing a charge of reckless driving causing injury. It is understood his passenger received minor injuries. Industry sources describe Pottinger as "a nice guy who made a silly mistake".... | |

| | | Tuner Special: MTM Audi S6 and S8 | | Posted Monday, October 09, 2006 10:47:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | WETTSTETTEN, Germany — Audi tuning specialist Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM), the brainchild of Roland Mayer, thinks there are still a few customers out there who'd like to buy a faster S6 sedan or wagon, or S8 sedan. No problem. MTM's shop has tweaked the 5.2-liter V10 in the S6 so it now delivers the same 450 horsepower as the S8. Fiddling further with the engine's electronics also enables both models to stretch their terminal velocity to 186 mph. MTM has also upgraded the S8's standard air-suspension system, while equipping the S6 with KW coil-over shocks and beefed-up springs. The company's 21-inch Bimoto wheels are shod with high-performance rubber. In addition, a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with quad pipes provides the proper note for high-speed motoring. For more information, see the MTM Web site.... | |

| | | 2007 BMW M6 Cabriolet Preview | | Posted Wednesday, August 16, 2006 8:46:09 PM by Blog57 Team | | The Germans have always been very, very good at building ruthlessly quick cars. From the first Auto Union racers to the current crop of uber-cars from Audis, Mercedes, and BMWs respective tuner lines, theyve gained a reputation for manufacturing extremely fast yet reliable cars that exude engineering excellence. BMWs M branch is at the fore of that reputation, known for building the class dominating M3 sports coupe, and what has long been recognized as the ultimate sports sedan; the M5. But they also produce a number of additional M cars, hardly the least of which is the M6. Based on the 6-Series but endowed with the M5s furious 500 horsepower V10, the M6 hasnt garnered as much press as its less shapely M-cousins for the simple fact that its up against stiffer competition and therefore doesnt rate as highly.... | |

| | | Official Pics: Audi S3 Breaks Out Ahead of Paris Debut | | Posted Tuesday, August 15, 2006 10:45:57 AM by Blog57 Team | | INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi's model rejuvenation program continues with the issuing of these first official pictures of the second-generation S3 ahead of its public premiere at the Paris Motor Show next month. The overtly sporty 3-door hatchback, planned to head into German showrooms in October at a base price of $44,750, is the last in the current wave of Audi's S models to make an appearance, following the S4, S6 and S8. The S3 is powered by a tweaked version of the Volkswagen Group's familiar turbocharged 2-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder engine — as found in the Volkswagen Golf GTI, among many other models. With a solid 265 horsepower, it matches the European-market BMW 130i for outright power, but its 258 pound-feet of torque is 26 pound-feet up on its premium hot-hatch rival. As tradition dictates, the S3 channels its drive to all 4 wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox and a Haldex multiplate clutch.... | |

| | | Optical and thermal designs hold key to Schefenacker's LED ... | | Posted Monday, July 24, 2006 8:45:56 PM by Blog57 Team | | Schefenacker, an automotive lighting specialist based in Germany, says that it is "working flat" out to develop viable LED technologies for headlamps. The company develops and produces more tail lamps and other signal lights using LED technology than any other automotive parts supplier in Europe, and recently entered the LED front-end lighting segment with its striking daytime running lights (DRLs) for the Audi S6 (see White LEDs used for daytime running lights on Audi S6. LEDs are energy-efficient, require no maintenance and will provide light for the life of a car. The use of various LED modules within a headlamp makes it possible to illuminate a specifically defined portion of the road, while their striking appearance means that LED headlamps open up entirely new design possibilities.... | |

| | | Jalopnik Reviews: 2006 Audi A6 4.2 Quattro, Part 1 | | Posted Sunday, July 23, 2006 10:46:06 AM by Blog57 Team | | The Audi A6 4.2 is a lot like a Michael Bay movie. Bear with me. It's got all the gizmos and gadgetry to make your wildest dreams come true, all centered around a 335-hp V8. Plus, it looks good (more on that later). The A6 4.2 is the automotive equivalent of the summer blockbuster because despite the big stars, jaw-dropping special effects and explosions, it still feels like something is missing, like a plot. Sadly, this analogy still holds true, because underneath all its gadgetry the A6 4.2 is flawed. But, to really pound this analogy into the ground, neither Michael Bay movies nor the Audi A6 4.2 are bad. They both have plenty to offer, and you cannot be faulted for owning one. Still, Bad Boys II is hardly The French Connection in the same way that the A6 is no E39 (1996-2003) 5-series.... | |

| | | Fixed-rate investments gain on volatile market CONSUMER TIPS | | Posted Friday, June 30, 2006 10:46:24 PM by Blog57 Team | | Interest rates just keep on rising, and stashing your cash now yields hefty returns if you know where to look. That steady income can be a real boost to your investment returns, especially when the stock market is as volatile as it's been for the past month. While rates are up thanks to the Fed raising its benchmark rate 16 times in the last two years, the stock market has taken a tumble over inflation fears. That means investors are worried the rate hikes may not be over. If they're right, you'll want to stay out of long-term investments that pay a fixed rate because you'll miss out if and when yields keep going up. Money-market and savings accounts readjust what they pay on a regular basis, so they're your safest bet. Besides, long-term bonds and CDs aren't paying much more than short-term ones — a "flat" yield curve — so there's little incentive to sink your money into them.... | |
