But they were paid for playing for their summer league teams, and their credit is good. They made purchases, but they've also socked a lot of money away. Under the NBA's rookie scale, Rudy Gay will make about $3.9 million his first two years, Hilton Armstrong $3.1 million, Marcus Williams $1.9 million and Josh Boone $1.8 million. .... | |

| | | Volkswagen GTI continues 'hot hatchback' tradition | | Posted Saturday, October 07, 2006 10:46:13 AM by Blog57 Team | | The moment I sat in the new 2007 Volkswagen GTI, I had flashbacks of exhilaration -- going through the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, driving Highway 1 in northern California. I know I'm not alone with memorable GTI trips but it would belittle the new GTI to say it's a mere throwback. The original "hot hatchback," as it was called when it came to the United States from Europe in 1983, the GTI is a sporty, new, fifth-generation model now. The familiar, youthful hatchback shape is there, but the front end is striking with black honeycomb-design grille and lower air dam plus more prominent headlights. Wheels are sizable at 17 inches and come with summer performance tires for maximum grip. This new-generation model also rides tightly on a modern platform and is the first GTI with fully independent suspension -- tuned for enthusiastic driving, of course.... | |

| | | Once more to celebrate five | | Posted Friday, September 08, 2006 8:46:37 PM by Blog57 Team | | Those who've watched the Broomfield Auditorium evolve over the past five years can testify. "It's hard to believe it's been five years," Cultural Affairs Manager Alisa Zimmerman said. "We've come so far." "So far" is from a basic performing arts space tacked on to the bond issue that built the library, to a facility that wows performers and audiences and has made Broomfield a viable arts locale. "Every year they're investing in better sound and light equipment," said Tina Lynn Craig, artistic director of Broomfield-based ASTER Women's Chamber Choir. "... They're really working to make the theater feel more like a theater and less like a lecture hall that's good for music." To celebrate that progress, as well as the fifth anniversary of Broomfield's becoming a county, the Audi is bringing back some top-notch acts for another round of shows.... | |

| | | Audi RS 4 offers racing technology in civilian clothes | | Posted Monday, August 14, 2006 8:45:47 PM by Blog57 Team | | When I signed on for Audi's recent RS 4 ride and drive event, it was with some hesitation. I knew I'd be left wanting more. Not that the highways and backroads enroute to Creemore, Ont. were anything less than scenic, but just that they were no place to test the mettle of this fearsome autobahn warrior. Still, as a driver who wished to remain on the right side of the law, it was an opportunity to see how driveable the RS 4 was on our speed-limited roadways--and to at least get a taste of the kind of engineering coming from Audi's performance arm, quattro GmbH. It's not often Audi debuts an RS-- there haven't been many since the RS 2 Avant tore into European showrooms in 1994. Fewer still of these limited-production vehicles have ever made it to North America. The only other one released here was the mighty 450 hp, bi-turbo RS 6 that entered our market in 2004 (2003 in the U.S).... | |

| | | Concern over dumped cars | | Posted Friday, June 30, 2006 12:45:52 AM by Blog57 Team | | A FORRES man has voiced concerns about an increase in the number of dumped cars in the area after spotting two at an isolated scenic spot on the outskirts of the town. The man, who lives in Pilmuir, wishes to remain anonymous as he has previously suffered at the hands of vandals, but he is concerned that the area is being used increasingly as a dump for both rubbish and vehicles. He usually walks his dog in the woods near the Dallas Dhu Distillery, off the Grantown Road, and has voiced his concerns after spotting that an amount of rubbish, plus two cars have been dumped at the same place over a matter of months. Earlier this year, he spotted an abandonded Audi which had been dumped by the side of the road and left to disintegrate. Over time, it was stripped and vandalised and then finally set alight.... | |
