| Evo writes on a sinister black Audi R8 | | Posted Monday, October 30, 2006 2:46:39 AM by Blog57 Team | | With the introduction of the Audi R8 just a few weeks back, the car is already generating a huge amount of talk and speculation throughout the auto industry. The R8's prime target was the Porsche 911. That would be fitting as both are mid-engined sports cars. Evo magazine brings us a nice introduction to the Audi R8 and compares it to the 997 Porsche 911 C4S. The C4S is claimed to go 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, meanwhile the R8 is claimed to accomplish same task in 4.6 seconds. It is worth mentioning that the R8 was NOT driven and therefore all performance numbers are speculatory and can not be confirmed at this time.Either way, still a great write-up of a truly mean looking Audi R8. | | | Hi-performance Audi TT's ... A real sports car? | | Posted Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:46:13 AM by Blog57 Team | | It's been debated whether Audi would build an RS version of the TT. According to Edmunds, they're doing it. The S-model will come first. Both models will compete with BMW and Porsche. This news is certainly welcome for Audi TT lovers. The question is, who is that exactly? At the price point these cars will demand, will anyone choose a TT over a Cayman or 911? Can the Audi TT--with its feminine looks and its history of being a show car--become a real sports car? Is the styling amazing, or merely too precious? Will a real enthusiast drive around what's been called a chick car, no matter how many ponies are under the hood?Audi is making the TT as strong as it can to find out. Would you buy a TT or is a nice car for someone else? Read Article .... | |

| | | Best result so far for Škoda | | Posted Monday, August 14, 2006 12:46:09 PM by Blog57 Team | | The OMV ADAC Rally of Germany in Trier, which ended on Sunday in wet conditions, brought Red Bull koda the best result in this year's World Rally Championship so far. The two team bosses Raimund Baumschlager und Armin Schwarz were appropriately happy: "First off we want to congratulate the entire team including the co-drivers, but especially Andreas, who has driven a great rally and who really came up to our expectations. Mattias has done a good job as well and has proven that he is an excellent rally driver in addition to having a successful career as an Audi DTM driver. The thorough testing in conjunction with several technical improvements contributed a lot to this success. That's why in the coming weeks we will be testing extensively in Austria again with Harri Rovanper and Andreas Aigner for our next rally in Cyprus." There was plenty of praise for Andreas Aigner, the 21 year old man from Styria, not only from within his own team - the Red Bull driver was lauded by his competitors and members of the international press as well for his sixth place finish.... | |

| | | Thrustworthy Harrier on a Rolls pips Le Mans Audi | | Posted Saturday, July 22, 2006 12:45:48 PM by Blog57 Team | | IN an unabashed, blatant attempt at gaining publicity, Audi pitched its 650hp Le Mans winning Audi R10 TDI against a 23,800lbf of thrust RAF Harrier jet at an English RAF base. It was close. Audi No4 driver Alan McNish was off the line first, screaming through the gears, and as it hit the 250km/h mark the 5.5 litre V12 diesel was still in front of the Harrier. But with a maximum speed of 1100km/h and more thrust than Peter Costello, the Rolls-Royce powered fighter hit the 1km mark a tenth of a second ahead. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Pete Kealyside, said the race was a "jolly good show" and he was pleased to land with "the same number of wheels as he took off with". Audi was pleased with the publicity but sad about being beaten by a Rolls-Royce. The Wolfsburg firm of Volkswagen AG owns Audi and, of course, Bentley.... | |

| | | Audi Rocks LeMans-Edition A6 Diesel | | Posted Friday, July 21, 2006 2:45:52 AM by Blog57 Team | | Audi's new ad slogan should be "Have we mentioned lately how much we rocked LeMans?" The company is launching a special-package A6 powered by a 3.0-liter diesel (sorry, no 650-horsepower TDI V12). The A6 LeMans is based on Audi's S-Line spec, including 19" alloys; a lowered suspension; interior accoutrements like in Volterra leather upholstery and decorative inlays, and special paint schemes. Sure, it's the automotive equivalent of the Franklin Mint's Elvis plates, but if you collect commemorative editions, this one will look great up on a giant credenza in the living room. Only 1000 right-drive models will be built, according to the company. Related: Audi Launches New Titanium Package in Chicago [internal] .... | |
