The next-gen in headlight technology has arrived

Every part of our vehicles are continully receiving upgrades, be it for increased comfort, power, or efficiency. Those glowing globes in the front are no exception. Some years back, we saw the introduction of high intensity discharge (HID) headlights, which we now find on a number of cars like the Acura TL. The next step? LED-based headlights. This emerging technology is already being implemented in the Audi R8 and the Lexus LS. LEDs are nothing new, even in the automotive industry (they've been used as turn signals and brake lights), but this is the first time they've been used as headlights. They boast lower power consumption, higher efficiency (because they're directional), longer life, and "significantly more flexible packaging." The trade-off is that they are much more sensitive to heat, and considering their proximity to the engine bay, this could be a problem....

Combined Honda and Acura division record sales for September were up 46 per cent over last year, with Honda automobile division sales of 14,702 units up 52 per cent, and Acura division reporting a 13 per cent increase with sales of 2,186 units. Over the weekend, the Boston Globe let loose with the first details on the new Acura TL Type-S. We didn't expect to hear any more on the subject until 9/1, when Acura was set to officially pull off the wraps, but Autoweek has accelerated things a bit by publishing official pictures and additional details. We already told you about the car's 286-horse 3.5L V6, which is connected to either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed auto with paddles. Also covered was the new stiffer suspension for the Type-S, so let's move on to how the car looks. Appearance-wise, the Type-S has adopted the former TL A-Spec's bodywork. The lower side skirts, the fender bulges, and the decklid spoiler that all first appeared on that package are now part of the Type-S trimmings. All TL models receive revised front fascias featuring integrated foglamps, new head and taillight assemblies, and an updated interior....

AIADA July 2006 US Sales: International Brands Help Down Month: Toyota, Honda Take No. 2 and 3 Spots
Posted Saturday, August 12, 2006 2:46:35 PM by Blog57 Team
Even as total U.S. auto sales dropped 17 percent for the month, international nameplate autos continued their charge in July, rising as a group 1.7 percent over the same period last year. An historic feat, Toyota, up 11.7 percent for the month, emerged in July as the No. 2 best-selling automaker in the U.S., surpassing Ford Motor Company (-35.3 percent in July) for the first time ever. Honda, with a rise in sales of 6 percent for July, slid into the No. 3 spot, skipping over Chrysler who suffered a 37.4 percent loss for the month. As gas prices across the nation remained at their high levels, consumers defected from SUVs and full-size pickups. Through July, full-sized pickup sales followed the trend of SUVs and dropped 15.3 percent, hurting GM and Ford's cash cows as well as sales of the Toyota Tundra, which was down 7.7 for the month....

Lost keys a pain in the wallet

Don't ever lose the keys to a modern car. Getting new computerized keys is complex, expensive and even humiliating. Even when you have the new keys, one little slip and you feel like an idiot. For the last two and a half years, I've leased an Acura 3.2 TL. So far, the Acura has lived up to its reputation of reliability. Just about the most expensive thing I have ever done is deal with the lost keys. Like many new cars, the Acura comes with a standard set of keys. Each key is attached to one of those all-purpose fobs that open and close the doors and the trunk and come with a red panic button. There is also a valet key, which will start the car and open doors but not the locked glove box or trunk, so the parking attendant can't remove things. Modern keys are clever....
